What are Memecoins?

In short: A meme is viral internet content, usually funny or entertaining, that spreads quickly. Memes can be images, videos, or texts. They often feature amusing animals, current events like elections, famous personalities, or politics.

You can find a few examples of memes by searching for "most popular memes" in search engines or checking the memecoin category on websites like coingecko.com.

Memecoins are tokens (cryptocurrencies) that, as the name suggests, usually relate to a meme and typically don’t have any additional functions. You can think of memecoins as a bet on how widely a meme will spread. They generally don’t have intrinsic value or specific functions and are only suitable for speculation.

Because they are essentially worthless, that’s actually the most important thing to remember – hopefully, it will remind you to take profits in time by selling again.

Why Memecoins?

Many tokens promise certain features, whether it’s increasing in value or providing access to web app features. These are called utility tokens because they promise added value.

Memecoins, on the other hand, don’t do any of that. Considering that most projects overpromise or fail, I believe that you should treat all cryptocurrencies you buy as memecoins – maybe with the exception of the big native tokens like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, or TON.

With this mindset, you’ll likely achieve far better results than someone who believes in all the promises of these projects and holds onto their positions for too long.

Many tokens have investors who bought much cheaper than you did in advance. There are countless examples where these investors or venture capital funds profit, while regular users lose.

A fairly launched memecoin doesn’t have these problems. It’s honest, and in most cases, everyone has the same chance. I’ll go into more detail on this topic later.

Another big advantage of memecoins is that everyone understands them. Everyone gets the joke of a dog wearing a hat (WIF), because there’s nothing to understand. It’s just a dog with a hat, and people can either find it funny or not. If lots of people find it funny, the price goes up, if not, then it doesn’t. Right now, the dog with a hat has a market cap of nearly $3 billion, and Doge managed to reach over $80 billion in the last bull run, becoming more valuable than many publicly listed companies.

How many people do you know who understand liquid staking, restaking, oracles, yield farming, PERPs, Layer Zero, decentralized AI, etc.? Or are even interested in all these things?

There are also legal challenges due to unclear regulations. A memecoin is usually simple legally because it doesn’t have functions. But try launching a token that distributes rewards to holders legally – that leads to very high legal risks in most countries.

When looking at the current market, most users are just after profits and entertainment. This trend has only increased over the last two years. Even people who are well-versed in blockchain rarely use it in daily life. There are countless projects and ideas, but few are truly used. This might change again, but for now, we should accept that this entire blockchain world is more like a casino. Memecoins are an example of this development and one of the few areas that are consistently growing.

Many are predicting an upcoming memecoin supercycle, where memecoins will outperform all other cryptocurrencies, and the market's performance since the beginning of 2024 supports this theory.

Every day, thousands of new memecoins are launched. Most of them remain absolutely worthless, but there are great opportunities for huge gains in a few cases daily. The advantage of being early is that you can multiply your initial investment quickly. So, you don’t need a lot of starting capital.

With Bitcoin or Ethereum and other already large cryptocurrencies, it’s usually no longer possible to achieve such extreme gains because you're simply too late. You might still get a higher return than with any other traditional asset class, but seeing a tenfold price increase in a short time is unlikely. That’s why it’s difficult, if you have very little capital at the start, to achieve life-changing profits with these major cryptocurrencies right now. But with memecoins, it’s different.

Memecoins are usually traded by retail traders and are of little interest to large institutional investors. It’s regular people like you and me, who all think they’re a little smarter than everyone else – and if that assumption is correct, it pays off.

Another advantage of trading memecoins is the very high volatility (price fluctuation). Of course, this can also be a disadvantage because their price can drop just as quickly. But since our goal is to buy as early as possible, we assume that we’ll catch the extreme price increase.

Memecoins are definitely an exciting challenge, and if we view the whole blockchain space a bit like a casino, then memecoin trading is definitely one of the skill-based games. With knowledge and the right mindset, you can gain a clear advantage.

What is Memecoin Trading and What Are the Requirements?

Simply put, trading means buying low and selling high. You can buy low when a token is very new, just launched, or after the price has dropped (in the crypto world, this is called a “dip”).

The big question, of course, is which tokens to buy and what to look out for – and that’s exactly what this book is about.

There are practically no requirements. Interest is important, understanding the content of the book, taking care of your security, and then you can start right away. Starting capital can be anything from around $100. Whatever amount you choose, always do everything shown here with money whose total loss won’t ruin you or stress you too much.

Then, you need an account on a CEX (Centralized Exchange) to buy the respective native token (Ether, Solana, TON, BNB) and a wallet to transfer the tokens and trade later.

Depending on the amounts you want to trade, you can set all of this up completely anonymously and start within minutes.

It's important to mention again that knowledge is a huge advantage in this area. Those who know more will usually earn more. Money always flows from impatient, emotional gamblers to smart people. That’s why so much of this book is so detailed.

Examples of Memecoins

You’ve probably heard of the biggest memecoins already, and there are countless online sources about them, so I’ll just list them briefly here, and you can research more if you’re interested.

If you want to build a super simple crypto portfolio out of memecoins, you can buy most of these big memes on the large well-known exchanges. If the market develops positively, this simple portfolio will probably outperform most other investments in terms of returns, as long as you enter at the right time.

  • Dogecoin (DOGE)
  • Shiba Inu (SHIB)
  • Floki Inu (FLOKI)
  • Pepe (PEPE)
  • Dog wif hat (WIF)
  • Dogelon Mars (ELON)
  • Brett (BRETT)
  • Mog (MOG)
  • Apu (APU)

Head over to Coingecko and take a look at the charts to get a feel for the large price swings and how irrationally high the valuation of these tokens can rise. We’re talking about market capitalizations of many billions of dollars. Some of these memecoins, like Doge, were temporarily valued higher than almost all DAX companies, including well-known firms like Deutsche Bank, Adidas, BMW, Porsche, or Mercedes.

Examples of Successful Trades

You don’t need to understand everything at this point, but this gives you an idea of what this is about, and you’ll see some numbers.

But a quick note: These numbers and valuations are just theory. It’s only a profit when it’s cashed out and sold. In the book, we’ll go over all the exact details later.

Let’s start with a little hippo named Moo Deng, born in July 2024 in a zoo in Thailand.

After the zoo released a few pictures and videos, Moo Deng took the internet by storm, and soon there were countless videos, memes, and fans. Big companies, football clubs, and thousands of users shared Moo Deng, and the little hippo became a viral internet sensation.

Whenever something like this happens, memecoins are quick to capitalize on it, and someone created a Moo Deng memecoin on the Solana blockchain.

Its value skyrocketed to a market cap of hundreds of millions of dollars in no time, and early buyers became millionaires. For example, the Solana account with the address Db3PqVvFJjPDdyL1EhcgXBsL1EXQbzU4GmVvf4Kuk49 bought in for just $800, and not even 14 days later, their position was worth nearly $9.4 million.

Other early buyers also made 6-7 figure profits by recognizing the little hippo’s potential and trading the token at the right time.

Another example is the memecoin BAKED on Solana and the wallet address HWaw6LcZM8iPWbH41xJmaSzdR9jEeqMkfWhR43woTSUq.

In the chart, you see a pattern that is very common with many memecoins. The token price skyrockets in a very short time, but usually, it also falls quickly and typically stays down.

Image 2

The trader bought the token with a single transaction within the first 5 minutes of launch for 5 SOL ($700) and then kept selling as the price rose, making a total profit of $363,000.

You’ll see in detail later how to find, verify, and trade these opportunities yourself.

You can find many such examples on Twitter accounts like @lookonchain:

Here’s an example where a trader made over $5.6 million from just $1,950: https://x.com/lookonchain/status/1801460600947806366

Remember, though, that some of these examples involve insiders with access to more information. So, always be cautious. The interesting part is that everything is publicly visible on the blockchain, so in many cases, you can also become an insider by gaining a knowledge advantage.

Another strategy, which often yields even larger profits, is to gradually invest gains from smaller trades into tokens with long-term potential. There are only a few tokens where this makes sense, like Pepe, Doge, WIF, Mog, etc. But here’s an example where someone turned $6,758 into over $4.2 million in just four months:

https://x.com/lookonchain/status/1800047922161303972

Another strategy is to buy into a current narrative. When Andrew Tate was making headlines again, this trader bought all the new Tate tokens for less than $3,000 each and made over $2.4 million in profit:

https://x.com/lookonchain/status/1799285484340097122

Out of the 12 tokens he bought, only one yielded such extreme gains, but overall, his win rate was 83%.

Here’s an extreme example where someone made $1.25 million in profit in just one hour:

https://x.com/lookonchain/status/1799080625489760671

Such trades are technically very challenging and require significantly more expertise and starting capital, but after reading the book, you’ll understand all these examples.

The goal of the book is to invest smaller amounts of $10-$500 into short-term 10-100x trades and then reinvest the profits into longer-term bigger tokens for another 5-10x and build a slightly longer-term portfolio.

Very important: We will sell everything at the end. If the amount would change your life, then change your life. That’s what this is about.
